Version 2.8 features an overhaul of the error reporting, including better information about the context in which the error occurred, and the value causing the error.
It also includes an update to the SPI interface, which fixes problems that prevented it from working correctly on 32-bit platforms.
Version 2.8 still fits in the 32 Kbytes of program memory and 2 Kbytes of SRAM available on the Arduino Uno, as well as supporting many more powerful platforms.
